FREE WILL ASTROLOGY – Week beginning January 15, 2021

CAPRICORN (from December 22 to January 19):
The author of Capricorn, Edgar Allan Poe, named “four conditions for happiness: life outdoors; love of another human being; freedom from all ambition; creation. “I succeeded in three of those categories, but I did not manage to be free from all ambitions. In fact, I am eternally delighted with all the exciting creative projects I am working on. I am VERY ambitious. What about you, Capricorn? contradicting Poe and speculating that your happiness in the coming months will require you to be at least somewhat ambitious. That’s what planetary omens tell me. So what are the best goals and dreams for you to be ambitious?

AQUARIUS (from January 20 to February 18):
It’s time to launch Operation Supple Watchdog. That means you must be tenderly attentive while taking very good care of everyone and everything that provides you with meaning and sustenance. It means you need to exercise rigorous but good-humored discernment about whatever oppressive or demeaning ideas are flying. You must protect and preserve the vulnerable parts of your life, but do so with tenacious compassion, not irritable overreactions. Be skeptical, but warm; cheerfully resilient but always ready to defend what is right. (PS The better you protect yourself against strange surprises, the more likely you are to attract interesting surprises.)

PISCES (from February 19 to March 20):
The atoms that make up your body have been around for billions of years. Originally created by a star, they have been a part of many ways before you. But they have exactly the same structure as always. So, in a very real sense, you are billions of years old. Now that you know, how do you feel? Something different? Stronger? More expansive? More eternal? I draw your attention to these thoughts, Pisces, because 2021 will be an excellent year for you to come to a deeper and more detailed understanding of your true nature. I hope you regularly ponder the possibility that your soul is immortal, that your identity is not limited to this historical age, that it has been alive, and that it is alive for much longer than you have been taught to believe.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19):
As you mature into a more fully embodied version of yourself, you will summon increasing discrimination about where to seek your inspiration. I am confident that you will shed more and more of any tendency you may have to play with any mediocre fire. Increasingly, you will be drawn to high-quality flames that provide just the right amount of heat and light – not too much, not too little. And you will steadfastly refrain from throwing yourself into the flames, glamorously dramatic as it may sound, and instead be a master of deft maneuvers that allow you to obtain the exact energy you need.

TAURUS (from April 20 to May 20):
Dentsu is a major Japanese advertising agency based in Tokyo. Annually since 1925, its new hires and newly promoted executives have performed a company ritual: climbing the 12,388-foot-high Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest peak. The theme of the arduous training is this: “We are going to conquer the symbol that represents Japan more than anything else. And once we do, it means we can do anything. “In anticipation of what I suspect will be a year of professional earnings for you, Taurus, I invite you to do the following: Sometime in the next six weeks, get out to nature and perform an equivalent feat.

GEMINI (from May 21 to June 20):
On January 13, I received a new email from a Gemini friend who lives in London. It was dated January 15, 2015. Strange! In it, he talked about applying for a new job at a publishing house. That was doubly weird, because February 2015 was in fact the time when he got the editing work that he still has. His email also relayed other details about his life that he knew were ancient history. So why did it arrive now, six years late? I called her on the phone to see if we could unravel the mystery. In the end, we came to the conclusion that his email had traveled through time in an inexplicable way. I predict that one or two similar events will soon happen in your life, Gemini. Explosions from the past will appear, as if yesterday were today.

CANCER (from June 21 to July 22):
Eugene Sue (1804-1857) was a popular French author whose stories often offered comprehensive descriptions of the harsh living conditions suffered by people of the lower economic class. Writing generously about those downtrodden people made him pretty rich. I would love to see him employ a similar strategy next year. What services could you perform to increase your access to money and resources? How could you benefit from helping and encouraging others?

LEO (July 23 to August 22):
The beautiful and luxurious fabric known as silk comes from cocoons made by insect larvae. Unfortunately for the creatures that provide the raw material, they are generally killed by humans who harvest their handiwork. However, there is a special type of silk in which manufacturers spare the lives of their benefactors. The insects are allowed to mature into moths and escape. I propose that we make them your spirit creatures in the coming weeks. It’s a great time to take an inventory of everything you do and assess how well you uphold the noble principle of “Do no harm.”

VIRGO (from August 23 to September 22):
“All the time that is not dedicated to love is wasted,” declared the Italian poet Torquato Tasso. Although I sympathize with his sentiment, I cannot agree that acts of love are the only things worth doing. Sometimes it’s healthy to be motivated by anger, sadness, or skepticism, for example. But I suspect that the next few weeks will be an auspicious time for you to have an intense devotion to Tasso’s advice. All the major successes you achieve will be based on the intention of expressing love and compassion.

LIBRA (from September 23 to October 22):
I heard a story about how a music fan took a Zen Buddhist monk to a Beethoven performance. Symphony No. 5. The monk was not impressed. “Not enough silence!” he complained. I am puzzled by that answer. If the monk was referring to a busy intersection in a major city, you might agree with him, or the cacophony of a political discussion among fans on Facebook. But wanting more silence in one of the best musical pieces in history? That is perverse. With this in mind, Libra, and in keeping with astrological omens, I encourage you to seek additional protection from useless noise and commotion for the next several weeks, even as you avidly search for rich sources of beautiful information, sound, and art.

ESCORPION (from October 23 to November 21):
“Some people expend tremendous energy just to be normal,” wrote Scorpio author Albert Camus. If you are one of those people, I am happy to inform you that you have cosmic permission to relax. The next few weeks will be an excellent time to explore the joys of NOT being conventional, standard, ordinary, average, routine, prosaic, or ordinary. As you practice non-normality extensively, your health will improve, your wits sharpen, and your decisions clarify.

SAGITTARIUS (from November 22 to December 21):
Our lives tend to be shaped by the stories about ourselves that we create and harbor in our imaginations. The adventures we actually experience, the problems we face, are often (not always) aligned with the stories we tell ourselves about our epic destinations. And here is the crux of the matter: we can change the stories we tell ourselves. We can discard stories that reinforce our pain and dream revised stories that are more meaningful and enjoyable. I think 2021 will be an excellent time for you to attend this fun job. Your task: be a self-nurturing storyteller.
