Giving Tuesday 2020: Where to Shop for Beauty Products That Give Back

Now that the turkeys have hit the tables, a lot of folks already have giving thanks and snagging deals down to a (very enjoyable) science. And lucky for us, there’s a holiday that lets us flex those muscles simultaneously: Giving Tuesday.

The holiday was created in 2012 to encourage both individuals and organizations to do good in their communities, and eight years later, it’s still going strong. Giving Tuesday 2020 falls on December 1, in the wake of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, and the list of participating organizations is getting longer all the time.

Even if you don’t do any shopping, we invite you to celebrate by extending generosity to those around you — whether in big or small ways. But if shopping does happen to be on the agenda, we made a list of the brands that are taking the holiday to the next level, extending impressive initiatives that are utterly deserving of our support.

With the goal of diversifying the hair-care space, Living Proof will donate a portion of all Giving Tuesday proceeds to Buy From a Black Woman (BFABW), which aims to empower Black business owners. Specifically, the funds will go toward providing three scholarships in BFABW’s Black Woman Business Accelerator Program, to give fledgling beauty brand owners access to the tools they need to expand. Stumped on where to start? The brand’s Full Dry Volume Blast was our readers’ favorite volumizer of 2020. (Shop Living Proof now)

In celebration of Giving Tuesday, Outdoor Voices is partnering with Delivering Good, a nonprofit that works with companies to donate new merchandise to people in need. Outdoor Voices is also launching a brand new color option for its Tech Sweat Leggings: snow leopard. (Shop Outdoor Voices now)

The folks at Lasting Smiles are so passionate about everyday people being able to support their favorite causes that they run a Giving Tuesday-esque initiative year-round. Purchase one of five flavors of the brand’s all-natural lip balms — which come in Peach Blossom, Peppermint Creme, Passionfruit Mango, Vanilla Bean, and Very Cherry — and at checkout, 50 percent of your purchase goes directly to the cause of your choice. (Partners include Meals on Wheels, NAMI, Best Friends Animal Society, Pencils of Promise, Young Audiences, Girls Inc, Girls on the Run, World Vision, Ronald McDonald, and Children’s Defense Fund.)  (Shop Lasting Smiles now)
