A different type of food service app allows loyal customers to pay reduced fees to salvage restaurant food before it goes to waste.
Too good to go, (can you get it, to go?) Offers shoppers a near-wasted bag of food, but perfectly good to go as a method to reduce food waste and help support the restaurant industry.
“As easy as throwing it away” the simplicity of Too good to go It is the key to your success. Instead of similar apps that allow customers to choose which items they want to keep, Too Good To Go offers only bags of whatever food restaurants have; more true to the spirit of the company, you might think.
The app was one of the winners of Fast Company’s 2021 World Changing Ideas Award, which reports that 40% of food in America goes to waste.
It is impossible to know how much food ends up in landfills, but it is possible to know how many meals Too Good To Go has prevented from getting there. Originally available in only a few select cities in the United States, they have sold 200,000 meals that were only hours away from going to waste.

More than 1,500 restaurants have registered in cities such as DC, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle and Los Angeles.
Now present in 15 countries, 150,000 orders go out the door per day, through a user base of around 37 million people, saving a staggering amount of food waste.
This is also easier for restaurants, as it is almost impossible to guess and predict what will be available at the end of a given night. The decomposition of food in landfills is a major source of methane, a short-term greenhouse gas that could, however, theoretically cause climate-related damage before disintegrating after a decade.

“We believe we can already save more than 2 million junk foods in the US by 2021,” said Lucie Basch, co-founder of Too Good To Go. Fast company. “That’s thousands of tons of emissions avoided.”
